Cabot's Story

I’ll always remember the day Denise called and told me that she had the perfect little (127 pound) boy for us. With excitement, my husband and I went to meet Cabot.

Cabot had come to the Canadian Newf Rescue as a result of a divorce situation when he was about thirteen months old.

When we meet Cabot we knew that Denise had done what she does best, she made a perfect match between Cabot and my family. Cabot was definitely our dog!

Cabot is beyond a doubt a presents in our home. A day does not go by that Cabot has not added laughter and excitement to the house. Cabot is coming up to his third birthday and we couldn’t think of our family without him.

We would like to take a moment and thank the Canadian Newf Rescue for being there for these wonderful dogs as well as for the families who get to benefit from the love of a Newf. As well a thank you to all the members who are there for guidance and support as we learned about the breed and having a now 165 pound Cabot in our home.

Cody came to Canadian Newf Rescue (CNR) approximately 3 years ago under circumstances less than desirable. His owner was not present to say Good-bye to him, and a teenage neighbor had been asked to turn the dog over to us with the appropriate papers releasing Cody to CNR. The teenager said the he could not handle the dog and that I would have to put him in the truck myself. After I took the leash, I wished I had parked the truck a little closer.

Back at the Rescue, Cody was evaluated and Gerald Rogerson and Trisha Boyd came to mind as possible adopters. Both had visited our booth at the Toronto Sportsman Show and had decided the time for a newf had come. Cody was introduced to their dog and the two got along very well. The Cody you see today is from many tireless hours spent by Trisha working with him.

Our work, Trisha's dedication to Cody and the Canadian Kennel Club changing the by-laws to award a "Performance Event Number"(PEN) in lieu of a Registration Number, has enabled Cody to become the first Newfoundland dog to received the title. Cody is now certified as a Canine Lifeguard and history has been made.

Canadian Newf Rescue gives a big hug to Cody and a huge Thank-you to Trisha for her dedication and love for Cody.

Slobber kisses and hugs for Cody from all our 208 rescued Newfoundland's past and present who share in this outstanding award. Canadian Newf Rescue is proud.
